Iranian President Firmly Rejects U.S. Nuclear Pressure

(MENAFN) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared firmly on Wednesday that Tehran will not succumb to what he described as “American arrogance” concerning its nuclear ambitions.

In remarks to an Iranian news agency, Pezeshkian confirmed that negotiations with the United States and European powers over Iran’s nuclear dossier remain active. He stressed that all discussions follow the strict guidelines set by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“We will not bow to arrogance,” Pezeshkian asserted. “We will never accept the elimination of our nuclear research, only to then wait for their approval to access the nuclear materials we need for our industry, medicine, agriculture and other sciences.”

He sharply criticized U.S. demands for Iran to cease uranium enrichment and nuclear research, defiantly asking, “Who said we need permission to conduct scientific research? Who are they to demand we dismantle our entire nuclear industry?”

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed growing doubts about reaching a nuclear agreement with Iran.

“They seem to be delaying, and I think that’s a shame, but I’m less confident now than I would have been a couple of months ago,” Trump stated.

When asked if he believed he could convince Iran to abandon its nuclear program, Trump responded, “I don’t know.” He added that regardless of a deal, Iran “is not going to have a nuclear weapon.”

The sixth round of nuclear talks between Iran and the U.S. is scheduled for Sunday in Muscat, Oman, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.

Diplomatic efforts resumed in April, facilitated by Oman, with five negotiation rounds held in Muscat and Rome to date. Although both sides report some progress, a significant breakthrough remains elusive.

Uranium enrichment stands as a major obstacle, with the U.S. demanding its cessation and Iran insisting the program will continue unabated.

Supreme Leader Khamenei has expressed skepticism about the talks’ potential outcomes, reiterating that Iran “needs no one’s permission” to pursue uranium enrichment.

Trump has warned of possible military action if a new nuclear deal is not reached to replace the 2015 agreement, from which the U.S. withdrew in 2018.
